SXSW 2017: Breakfast Taco BG Challenge

Now presenting…. the 2nd Annual Breakfast Taco BG Challenge at SXSW!

What went down at SXSW?

Just like last year, our challenge crew included people with and without diabetes, and everyone experienced a little post-taco BG turbulence. Check out our video to see how our BG-checking, insulin-dosing, and carb-counting skills stood up against these carb-a-licious Texas street tacos! (And watch One Drop user Lola win a free One Drop | Chrome!)

For those of you who haven’t seen last year’s challenge, please check it out here: SXSW 2016: Breakfast Taco BG Challenge

As with every BG challenge, the goal is to check, chow down, and see what happens!

Here’s how to play

1) Grab some friends.

2) Pick a challenge food.

3) Check blood. (Friends, even if you don’t have diabetes, you’ve got to check too!)

4) Estimate carbs.

5) Take insulin.

6) Check blood a little later to see how you did! (Again, friends, that means you too!)

You can define the “winner” however you like — we’re all winners here!

All right, that’s enough taco ’bout it. On to the video! 🙂

Take the #DiabetesDanceDare!

Hey One Drop Community! The ADA recently kicked off the Diabetes Dance Dare, and we are so pumped to join in and raise diabetes awareness! We’re dancing and daring our friends to spread the word, and that includes you. 🙂 Check out our video above where I bust a move in the One Drop booth at the ADA Expo in Minneapolis, MN.

So how do YOU get involved? Grab a few friends and follow these steps:

STEP 1

Pick your song — anything goes!

STEP 2

Get your groove on! Show us your moves for at least 23 seconds, and be sure to catch it all on camera. 😉

Every 23 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes

STEP 3

Dare 3+ people to take the Diabetes Dance Dare and donate to fight diabetes.

STEP 4

Tell the world! Post your dance to Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram with the hashtag #DiabetesDanceDare. And give a shoutout to @OneDropToday so we can share with the One Drop Community!

For more info, go to www.diabetesdancedare.org

Let’s dance!  We’re in this together.

Video: LAUNCH 2016

Happy Birthday to us! 365 days ago, One Drop launched at LAUNCH Festival 2015.

Today, at this year’s #LAUNCHfestival, One Drop founder Jeff Dachis updated the crowd on the road travelled over the past year, including the recent rollout of the One Drop Food Library, and a preview of  diabetes coaching services and the bluetooth glucometer and meter subscription service to be launched later in 2016.

It’s been an amazing journey, with much more to come!

TWO T1DS WALK INTO A BAR: Some unexpected rewards…

One last question before Haley and I get the check: Haley, what is your least favorite thing about having diabetes?

For those of you who don’t know, Haley is a good friend of mine who’s had type 1 diabetes for 16 years. We met about 2 years ago at a JDRF event in San Francisco and have been close ever since! It’s that instant diabetes connection. 😉

In this video, Haley touches on all her “least favorite things” about having diabetes, which many of us can relate to: the worry, never getting a break, regret about not being more responsible way back when… But Haley also talks about how rewarding diabetes can be — that special satisfaction you feel when you’re totally nailing it.

So, when’s the last time you owned diabetes?

You know the feeling: “Who needs a pancreas?! I’ve got this sh*t down.” Even if only for a day or a few hours — tell us all about it!  These are the stories that keep us going when the going gets tough. >> Tweet This!

And be sure to check out our previous post: TWO T1DS WALK INTO A BAR: Would you undo diabetes?

One Drop Feature: Insulin Pump Basal Rates (VIDEOS)

One Drop Diabetes Management - App Features (Scheduled Meds, Basal Rates)

Pumpers rejoice! Now you can set up your basal rates in One Drop! Just go to Settings (top left) > Health Settings > Auto Basal Rate. Enter your basal info and basal insulin will flow seamlessly into your timeline 24/7. Want to log a temp basal? No problem! You can enter temp basal rates at any time right from the One Drop home screen by tapping “Set Temp Basal” in the blue bar above the Me stream.  For step-by-step instructions, check out the videos below.

As an added bonus, you can set up daily reminders to log any temp basal rates you may have used throughout the day. Note: YOU MUST have push notifications enabled to receive reminders, so make sure to turn them on for One Drop!
