One Drop Expands Diabetes Health and Behavioral Informatics Team With Addition of Chandra Osborn PhD, MPH

One Drop Continues Its Focus on Data Science to Best Serve a Growing User Base and Further Unlock Powerful Insights From Unprecedented Amounts of Diabetes Data

NEW YORK, NY-- (August 16, 2016) - One Drop is transforming diabetes self-care by focusing on digital solutions that promote health behaviors through empowerment, mindfulness and motivation. One Drop today announced the hiring of Chandra Osborn PhD, MPH as Vice President of Health and Behavioral Informatics. In her new role, Osborn will expand on the company's efforts to drive data-focused self-care solutions into the healthcare marketplace.

Since launch, One Drop users from 192 countries have contributed over 65 million health-related data points, all of which are being used to better understand the factors impacting diabetes management and to provide the One Drop community with meaningful insights into how to achieve better glycemic outcomes. Osborn is a leading expert on how to promote adherence to diabetes medications and insulin, reduce diabetes self-care disparities, and leverage technology to improve the lives of people with diabetes.

Osborn joins One Drop from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was Assistant Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics, and months away from being tenured and becoming the Director of the Behavioral Intervention Technologies and Services Core of the Vanderbilt Center for Diabetes Translational Research.

During her eight years at Vanderbilt, Osborn led NIH-funded digitally-delivered diabetes self-care trials, taught courses on health behavior, and was the Co-Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Health Behavior and Health Education. Osborn has also served as the Co-President of the Behavioral Research in Diabetes Group Exchange, and is currently among the leadership for the Society for Behavioral Medicine's Diabetes Special Interest Group.

Outside these roles, Osborn has been a sought-after advisor for the American Diabetes Association, NIH, and National Diabetes Education Program, where she informs the behavioral diabetes and mHealth scientific agendas, and curates diabetes education materials and resources for the public.

"Diabetes is a data-driven disease and we need data-driven solutions. Dr. Osborn has been working relentlessly to improve the lives of people with diabetes, which aligns perfectly with our mission at One Drop," said CEO and Founder, Jeff Dachis. "We are unlocking powerful insights from massive amounts of user and population health data. Dr. Osborn is not only technically adept, but also curious and tireless in her efforts to empower those most in need of new ways to drive healthy outcomes. We are honored that she has chosen to join our team."

"One Drop is having a profound impact on scaling access to care, increasing efficacy of care, and reducing the cost of care. I'm excited to work with this team to bring One Drop's solution to hundreds of millions of people worldwide in need of a more modern approach to diabetes management. I also look forward to demonstrating the power of data-driven self-care to healthcare providers, payers, and the scientific community," Osborn said. "I've spent my career researching the most effective ways to communicate, educate, and empower people with diabetes. Now I get to put it into practice."

In Q4, 2016, One Drop is launching One Drop | Premium, a monthly subscription service that includes: the One Drop | Chrome blood glucose monitoring system, unlimited blood glucose testing supplies and access to One Drop Experts, a 24/7 on-demand diabetes support and self-management program delivered exclusively through the One Drop app for iOS and Android. In July 2016, One Drop submitted a 510K to the FDA for approval of its bluetooth-enabled blood glucose monitoring system, which will transmit blood glucose data directly to the One Drop mobile app.

Both One Drop | Premium and One Drop | Chrome are expected to launch in the US in fall of 2016 (pending FDA approval) and internationally in 2017 (pending CE marks and country-specific approvals). Diabetes affects nearly 500 million people worldwide. It is the most expensive healthcare problem today, with nearly 1 out of 5 healthcare dollars ($750 billion) spent annually on direct diabetes costs, healthcare services, loss of productivity, and disability.

The One Drop platform empowers people with diabetes to make better choices and achieve meaningful improvements in glycemic control, thereby preventing the complications that drive diabetes-related spending. By empowering people to take care of themselves, One Drop significantly reduces the cost of care and disease management over time.
